We're delighted to be B Corp Certified, making us part of a global community of businesses committed to high and improving standards of social and environmental impact, accountability and transparency, and to a more inclusive, equitable and regenerative economy.
What does this mean?
It's a big idea, nothing less than an ambition to change the global economy for the better, but crucially, with a clear vision and plan for doing so.
Central to that is making business a force for good, not just for hoovering up profit, described by B Lab (the non-profit network behind the B Corp movement) as follows:
What is B Corp certification?B Corp Certification means that a company has been verified as meeting B Lab’s high standards for social and environmental impact, that it has made a legal commitment to stakeholder governance, and that it is demonstrating accountability and transparency by disclosing this record of performance in a public B Corp profile.

| A better way to do businessStakeholder governance is a growing corporate governance alternative to shareholder primacy — the prevailing doctrine under capitalism that pushes companies to prioritise profit above all else, driving inequality, environmental extraction, and social fragmentation. B Corps make a commitment to consider the interests of all stakeholders in their business operations: workers, customers, communities and the environment. |

Committed to continuous improvementBy certifying, B Corps step into a framework for continuous improvement. To maintain certification, companies must undertake the assessment and verification process every three years, demonstrating they are still meeting B Lab’s standards — which are themselves always improving, with continual input from expert stakeholders.
Certification doesn’t mean that a company is perfect, nor that it has achieved its highest impact. However, it does show that it is part of a global community of business working collectively for economic systems change, and that to stay committed to this work it must meet rising standards for social and environmental performance.

To understand more of what this means in everyday terms, you can also head over the Harris Hill Blog to hear how we explained it to our Nan, but it's perhaps most clearly summarised in the following 'Declaration of Interdependence' that we, as a certified B Corp, stand by wholeheartedly:

| Declaration of Interdependence | |

| We envision a global economy that uses business as a force for good. This economy is comprised of a new type of corporation - the B corporation - which is purpose-driven and creates benefit for all stakeholders, not just shareholders. As B corporations and leaders of this emerging economy, we believe:
To do so requires that we act with the understanding that we are each dependent upon another and thus responsible for each other and future generations.
