Active Luton seeks a visionary systems-thinker to apply their considerable strategic leadership skills as our next Chief Executive Officer (CEO) as we seek to make positive impact on the health and wellbeing of Luton’s diverse community; inspiring, motivating and offering opportunities for people of all ages, abilities and backgrounds to learn and take action to improve their life chances.
Active Luton is a community wellbeing trust, a registered charity with a turnover of over £14m, an employer of over 600 people, and an anchor institution within the town. We work at the heart of the community to deliver integrated services across a wide-ranging remit, with responsibility for:
Luton Council’s leisure centres and some community centres
Health and wellbeing programmes
Luton Libraries
Luton’s holiday activity scheme for disadvantaged children
PE training and development services for schools
Creating and enhancing employment opportunities within and beyond our organisation

Location: Luton
As our next CEO, you will demonstrate:
Extensive experience and successful track record as a senior leader of a medium/large charity or public sector organisation of comparable size and complexity.
Substantial experience of leading strategic change in complex organisations or partnerships in the public/voluntary sector.
Substantial experience of commissioning or managing a range of services, including setting and monitoring impact-based performance criteria.
Experience of working with a board of trustees or similar in a community, public, or voluntary organisation.
Experience of leading and developing local, regional, and national partnerships or stakeholder relationships across a range of sectors including community, private, public, or voluntary organisations.
Experience of working in partnership with Local Government organisations.
Significant experience and proven track record of strategic planning, service improvements, efficiency programmes, and business re-modelling.
Track record as a strategic, system-thinker with the ability to think and act strategically and creatively with excellent analytical skills.
Ability to assimilate technical/expert advice to inform decision making.
Track record as a highly effective networker with excellent communication, presentation, influencing, and negotiating skills and the ability to relate to and influence senior stakeholders in a range of contexts.
